Our half day manual handling training course aims to educate trainees on the legal requirements, risks factors and correct techniques associated with manual handling tasks.

This course is conducted in accordance with Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR 1992). It will prepare candidates to look carefully at their own work activities, collaborating with managers and supervisors to develop safer methods with the aim of reducing workplace injuries.

    Manual Handling

    Manual Handling accidents account for more than a third of all of the reported accidents at work, resulting in a loss of approximately 8.3 million working days per year.

    Successful completion of this manual handling training course will prepare candidates to look carefully at their own work activities. It also gives them the opportunity to contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks in co-operation with their managers and supervisors, with the aim of reducing injuries related to manual handling.

    Course Content

    This manual handling training course is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR 1992). It covers the following subjects:

    • Legal duties and regulations relating to MHOR 1992
    • The financial and health cost to both the employee and employer of injury caused by incorrect manual handling
    • An explanation of the medical, physical and psychological damage that can be caused through incorrect manual handling
    • Types of back injury including case studies.
    • Lifting and handling risk factors
    • Techniques for correct handling and lifting.
    • Push and pulling risk factors
    • Techniques for correct push and pulling.
    • Recording assessments
    • Solutions and alternatives to typical manual handling problems

    Who Should Attend?

    The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to minimise the health risks associated with manual handling.

    Employers should:

    • Avoid the need to lift, carry, push, pull, lower or support loads wherever possible
    • Mechanise tasks which cannot be avoided through the use of trolleys, barrows, lifts or hoists
    • Carry out risk assessments, which take into account the work task, the activity involved, individual capacity, working environment and other factors.

    Information, instruction and training should be provided.

    Training Course Requirements

    This training course is a 1/2 day course which can be conducted anywhere in the UK for a maximum of 15 trainees. Our staff will work on sites with suitable facilities (power and seating).

    On completion of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance (which is emailed in a PDF format), an individual training record (to provide proof of training) and a comprehensive set of course notes for each trainee.
