As we celebrate TTS being in business for 14 years we reflect on what it has taken to get here.
We started our business in our back bedroom in a double dip recession. The bottom had fallen out of the housing market so I had left the world of estate agency. Dave was running an abrasive wheel and forklift training business (it was just him) but struggling to make ends meet. So we decided to set up business together. Mad? Perhaps…. But we felt we had to give it a try.
14 years ago our core business was based around abrasive wheel training. An area that Dave had huge experience in. My job was to run the admin and the sales, whilst Dave delivered the training. This combination worked well. We both work in different parts of the business and I think it’s why we are still in business together and still married!
Abrasive wheels training
Our aim was to ensure we delivered abrasive wheel training to the best of our ability. So we were delighted when Dave achieved British Abrasives Federation (BAF) accreditation in 2011. The only accreditation programme mentioned by the HSE in HSG17 safety in the use of abrasive wheels. To this day we promote and help achieve awareness of the BAF accreditation programme.
Over time we developed many courses and as part of our training programme we introduced face fit testing. Something that goes hand and hand with what we already delivered.
Fit2fit accreditation
In line with our ethos we wanted to achieve the industry standard for face fit testing. After gaining experience in fit testing, each team member went through the accreditation programme. BSIF offer fit2fit accreditation and is a way of successfully demonstrating good practice. Fit2fit is recognised in HSE – Health and Safety Executive documents HSG53 Respiratory protective equipment at work and INDG479 Guidance on respiratory protective equipment (RPE) fit testing. In the last 14 years TTS have built a strong reputation. We work with many industries delivering face fit testing. Having worked with BT for over 6 years we are proud to work with BT Group and Openreach delivering their face fit testing programmes.
Fit2Fit Approval
During covid our face fit training courses were in high demand. Many industries – particularly the healthcare industry, wanted to learn how to face fit test their own staff. We worked with many NHS Trusts and Health Education England – Yorkshire and Humber to train scores of staff. Before delivering this training we achieved fit2fit approval. The approval scheme ensures courses have been judged to include all aspects of the health and safety executive’s face fitting guidance and protocols. At that time we were 1 of only 5 companies in the country to have both our qualitative and our quantitative courses approved.
First Aid Training
In 2021 we developed our first aid training progamme. Our first aid training team are NUCO approved. NUCO is the UK’s largest network of combined First Aid, Health and Safety, Food Safety and Safeguarding instructors. NUCO is industry recognised as an approved centre with First Aid Awards Ltd (an Ofqual and SQA regulated awarding organisation). This allows us to deliver a range of nationally regulated qualifications. Including Emergency First Aid at Work, Forestry, First Aid at Work and more. See our full range of first aid courses.

TTS 14 years of experience means we have worked with some of the leading UK PPE manufacturers. We have built great working relationships with Globus, Alpha Solway, Moldex, JSP, Portwest and Trend. Locations
We have 2 offices in the UK. Our head office in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire is our main base. Our training centre is currently being extended. As of October 2022 we hope to offer 2 training rooms whilst also having our admin suite/PPE centre. In addition to this we have an office in South London – Morden in Surrey. This means we can run open courses at our premises in the North and South of England. Based in various locations our team cover the whole of the UK delivering training and testing services on your site or ours.
